Serving as Executive Director of the Tennessee Commission on Higher Education (THEC) since 1997, Dr. Richard G. Rhoda has had an extensive career in higher education. He started in 1973 as a Research Associate at the Tennessee Board of Regents, eventually becoming the Executive Assistant to the Chancellor. As Executive Director of THEC, Rhoda is a statutory member of the Tennessee Board of Regents.
Rhoda served in various administrative capacities at Tennessee State University beginning in 1985 and returned to TBR as Vice Chancellor for Administration in 1990. During his tenure as Vice Chancellor for Administration, he served as Interim President at Nashville State Technical Institute, Acting Chancellor of TBR, and Interim President of Austin Peay State University. Rhoda later taught at Vanderbilt University, then served as Senior Vice Chancellor for TBR.
Rhoda received a B.A. in History from Vanderbilt, a M.A. in Education at Peabody, and a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration at Vanderbilt.
